Project Description
The City of West Des Moines needed assistance replacing an existing heating plant, an air handler and adding direct digital controls to variable air volume boxes throughout the facility.
Scope of Work
The scope included replacing the existing boilers with twin low-temperature, high efficiency boilers, an air handler original to the building, and variable-air-volume boxes throughout.
Challenge Faced
The library is a vital space for any city and it needed to remain in operational during construction. The project was completed in multiple phases with work being performed before, during and after normal hours. Commissioning occurred during pre-planned shutdowns so that entire wings of the library could be tested and balanced to reduce the duration of work.
Project Outcome
The project was completed on time and on budget. Each VAV box position was photographed and documented during design, so it was easy to forward to the contractor prior to construction so that guess work was removed and obstacles identified before any ladders went up. Boiler work was completed during the summer months.
