We’re proud to share that Corey Metzger, Principal at Resource Consulting Engineers, recently participated in the Stanford Forum on Sustainable and Healthy Buildings—a high-impact gathering of experts working to advance clean indoor air and healthier buildings.

Co-organized by Stanford University, Brown University, and QUT (Queensland University of Technology), the forum brought together leaders from across disciplines to discuss how healthy indoor environments can become the norm—not the exception.

Corey contributed to meaningful conversations on indoor air quality, sustainable design, and the role of engineering in public health. Events like this reinforce the critical connection between building systems and the well-being of the people who live, learn, and work inside them.

Thank you to the organizers and fellow participants for fostering such a thoughtful, forward-thinking space.

Universities are constantly evolving, and their buildings need to keep up. From smarter classrooms to more efficient labs, campuses rely on well-designed MEP systems to keep things running.

At Resource Consulting Engineers, we help universities upgrade aging infrastructure, improve energy efficiency, and design systems that meet the needs of students and faculty. Whether it’s HVAC, electrical, or plumbing, we make sure campus buildings are built for the long haul.

Clint Rabe attended the February Member Meeting of ASHRAE Iowa focused on Refrigerant Updates at on February 27, 2025, at Exile Brewing Company in Des Moines.

Alex Schmig, ASHRAE Region VI Refrigeration Chair and Principal Engineer of Refrigerants and Systems Technology at Trane, provided an in-depth overview of ASHRAE Standards 15 and 34 and their impact on the industry. He covered key regulatory updates and safety standards, including changes that will influence how next-generation refrigerants like R-32 are monitored.

Here is one key takeaway: ASHRAE Standard 15-2024 introduces stricter safety and refrigerant charge limitations, significantly affecting the design and application of VRF and heat pump systems in commercial buildings. The new standard revises refrigerant concentration limits (RCL) based on toxicity and flammability classifications, making charge quantities, leak detection, and ventilation strategies critical considerations for system designers.

At Resource, we’re staying ahead of these changes by adopting lower-GWP refrigerants, leak mitigation technologies, and enhanced system monitoring, ensuring compliance and operational efficiency for our clients.
