National Swine Research and Information Center (NSRIC) Sprinkler System Modification

Project Description

For this project, Iowa State University (ISU) needed fire sprinkler design assistance modifying main fire suppression piping such that a fire pump would no longer be needed and verifying hydraulic flow data at the building’s most remote locations.

Scope of Work

The scope included the removal of the existing fire pump, new flow switches and zone valves along with increased piping mains to meet flow and pressure requirements.

Challenge Faced

Removal of the existing fire pump, located in the adjacent USDA building, required careful coordination to avoid outages between buildings while they both remained occupied.

Project Outcome

The project is nearly complete and is scheduled to be completed in Spring of 2020.
