Project Description
The project replaced the majority of the mechanical system at Winterset Public Library, and converted the heating system from electric to natural gas. A new rooftop unit with energy recovery, new natural gas-fired boilers, new supply air terminal units, and new humidifiers were added for the building.
Scope of Work
Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Design and Construction Administration services were provided for the Project. RCE worked as a sub-consultant to SystemWorks, LLC, with OPN as the Prime Consultant. We worked with the design team and contractors throughout the course of the Project.
Challenge Faced
The existing mechanical system and building envelope had issues that needed to be addressed. After review, it was determined that limited modifications would not address the issues being experienced. OPN designed a full building envelope replacement and RCE designed the mechanical system upgrades. The challenges were fairly standard for a retrofit project.
Project Outcome
The new systems were designed to maintain comfortable temperature and humidity throughout the Winterset Public Library during all periods of the year. This was accomplished, and the energy cost to operate the building was cut in half.
