Project Description
The Historic Woodbury County Courthouse has suffered from limited maintenance over the past twenty years. With a new Building Services Director, a renewed focus on maintenance and improving operating capabilities led to multiple projects for this building, including a study to locate all building steam traps, a steam trap service and replacement project, and a controls system upgrade project.
Scope of Work
RCE provided mechanical and electrical engineering study, design, and construction administration services, working as the prime consultant to the Owner. AEI served as electrical engineering sub-consultant. An additional project to fully retrofit mechanical systems on the third through seventh floors of the building was designed and bid, but has not moved forward at this point due to cost.
Challenge Faced
Limited information was available on multiple building components, so significant field work was required. Additionally, the historic nature of the building factored in to decisions related to system modifications and operating capabilities.
Project Outcome
With significant field work time on site, as well as detailed coordination, the projects were designed to work within the historic constraints of the building, while improving building operational capabilities.
